A New Vision for Our World
The vision for The Sitting with Death and Choosing Life Programme began at the onset of lockdown, 2020, as a desire to see creative “grief hubs” in local communities throughout the UK supporting people to accept the process of grief as a normal part of life and with the potential to deliver many gifts. This seed has grown into an eco-system of five inter-connected courses and a related library of resources.
The creative work and the practice that has evolved through the Sitting with Death and Choosing Life Programme now serves a vision of a transformational journey through grief, loss, sorrow, the many forms of death, and all the murky shadowy aspects of being human, towards the realisation of wholeness and the best in human nature, so that we may align with flourishing life and evolve a human culture that serves the conscious evolution of life on Earth.
This is not “my” vision or one particular to The Sitting with Death and Choosing Life Programme. It is an emerging transpersonal vision held by millions of people throughout the world. A vision that all its proponents – of whatever age, colour of skin, race or gender – are in the process of articulating and expressing and bringing into embodiment at this time, through a process of conscious deathing and birthing.
It is a vision brought into our creative minds through a spiralling, evolving energy and universal intelligence which holds the light and the darkness as one integrated and interacting whole, essential to the evolution of life. This is best symbolised by the symbol of the Tao with its dynamic black and white yin-yang depicting the underlying nature of the Universe.
It is a vision of the interconnectedness of all life and the revelation of the miracle of life on Earth and the place of Earth in a meaningful cosmos.
It is a vision of creative empowerment and how we can individually and collectively liberate ourselves from the toxic burden of centuries of suppression and oppression, through a process of conscious healing, so that we can realise the immense privilege and responsibility in the freedom we have to engage with the creative process and the conscious evolution of life on Earth.
This vision inspires me and brings meaning, direction, coherence and motivation into what otherwise appear to be random, chaotic, overwhelming , violent dramas disrupting peace and harmony throughout the world.
This vision challenges me because it draws out all my skill, wisdom and experience and invites me to step beyond what I already know into the unknown and the uncertainty of the coming solution, into the place where I am always a beginner.
This vision incites me to step out of my comfort zone and take the risks of possible failure, rejection, separation and suffering.
It rouses me to step into leadership and to encourage others to move forward, even when I don’t know what to do or what my own next step will be.
It thrills me because I can’t imagine anything more exciting than being part of this emerging global and cosmic creative process.
It humbles me when I run into dead ends or the creative energy seems to have deserted me and I feel small and lost.
I need to keep renewing my faith and trust in what I am serving.
There is no enlightenment without the willingness to sit with death and to embrace the shadowy recesses of human nature.
There is no wholeness without the containment and integration of the many, often contradictory, parts of human nature.
There is no freedom without responsibility. No liberation without the knowledge of oppression.
The final vision of The Sitting with Death and Choosing Life Programme is to know who we truly are, why we’re here, what gifts we have to offer and how best to offer them.
